High-tech agriculture contributes to Đạ Ròn’s new rural development

(VOV) - Đạ Ròn commune in Lam Dong province has an ideal climate and conditions for growing several kinds of crops and raise livestock.

Đạ Ròn’s application of high-technologies in agriculture has boosted local implementation of the national new rural development program.

10 years ago, Đạ Ròn was a very disadvantaged commune. Then local authorities cooperated with other localities and Lam Dong farmers’ associations to apply advanced technologies to growing safe fruits, vegetables, and flowers, using low-cost irrigation systems and green houses.

Farmers were also encouraged to raise milk cows. This has stimulated agricultural development and improved people’s living conditions. Đạ Ròn now has 1800 milk cows which, with Đạ Ròn’s horticulture, earns local farmers thousands of USD annually.

Le Van Cuong, a florist in Đạ Ròn, said, "Due to limited initial capital, many household economies have begun to grow only in the past few years. If we had more capital, our production would expand more quickly."

In addition to applying new production models, Đạ Ròn has organized more than 60 training courses to transfer advanced technologies to local farmers.

Nguyen Thanh Hung, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, said, "The application of ICT is of great importance to Vietnam’s agricultural restructuring strategy. It will support farmers in information and experience sharing, harvesting, improving agricultural products, and better promoting their products in markets."

Đạ Ròn authorities have encouraged local people and social organizations to contribute to new rural development by donating labor, land, and cash. Đạ Ròn has successfully upgraded its infrastructure, built new healthcare and cultural centers, and is taking the lead in Lam Dong province in implementing the national new rural development program.

The local poverty rate has fallen from 50% in 2000 to 5% in 2015. Đạ Ròn has set a strong example in new rural development for other localities nationwide to follow.
