VOV.VN - Phu Tan craft village in Tuy An district in the South Central Coastal province of Phu Yen has been famous as the home of artisan weavers of sedge mats for hundreds of years.

| In Phu Tan village, sedge mats meet the needs of local residents and consumers in the Central Highlands and south central provinces. Sedge mats are made from natural materials, allowing people to sleep comfortably in hot weather. |

| Phu Tan craft village has more than 25 hectares set aside in the locality for growing sedges. Thanks to a stable supply source, the village has developed strongly for several years and generated more than 600 jobs in the region. |

| The village grosses an annual revenue of more than VND5.3 billion from selling sedge mats, while residents can earn an average monthly income of VND4 million. |

| Due to the increasing demands of the local market, many households in the craft village are equipped with weaving machines to increase productivity. At present, the village has two mat production complexes equipped with machines. |

| Many older people have a strong attachment to the craft and instruct apprentices in making sedge mats. A pair of mats made in the traditional method can be sold for between VND50,000 and VND60,000 while a pair of mats made with machinery ranges between VND130,000 and VND160,000. |

| The village’s sedge mat products are also sold in other localities such as Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa and Binh Dinh. |
