Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung welcomed visiting Japanese Communist Party leader Kazuo Shii in Hanoi on January 11, saying the visit made an important contribution to further developing relations between the two parties, governments and peoples.

Mr Dung thanked the Japanese Communist Party (JCP) and people for their solidarity and support for Vietnam during the struggle for national independence in the past and national construction and development at present. The Government leader hailed the results of earlier talks between Vietnamese Party leader Nong Duc Manh and JCP leader Shii.

For his part, Mr Shii spoke highly of the Doi Moi (Renewal) process initiated and led by the Communist Party of Vietnam and expressed his elation at the fruitful development of the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in recent years.

The same day, Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Pham Quang Nghi received Mr Shii and his entourage.

The Japanese delegation also visited Hanoi University and other economic and cultural establishments in the capital city.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese and Japanese legal experts exchanged experience in developing the two countries' law making at a two-day seminar which ended in Hanoi on January 11.

Sutomu Onishi, head of a research agency under the Secretariat of the Japanese House of Representatives, spoke of the role of research agencies in preparing materials for drafting laws and providing feedback on parliamentary activities.


Dr. Ngo Duc Manh, Director of the Information-Library-Scientific Research Centre of the National Assembly Office said the seminar helped provide useful information for the Vietnam National Assembly's renovation.
