Vietnam has so far discovered around 300 terrestrial and aquatic animal species, making it one of the countries of great importance to the conservation of animals.

A full list of newly-found animal species in the Vietnamese, English and Latin languages has been published in a guidebook on animals in Vietnam by People and Nature Reconciliation (PanNature), a non-profit Vietnamese organisation, with assistance from the World Bank’s Bio-diversity Programme and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency’s Environment Fund.

Speaking at the book launching ceremony in Hanoi on July 9, PanNature Director Trinh Le Nguyen expressed his hope that the book will help raise public awareness of and responsibility for conservation of animals.

The 256-page book in English and Vietnamese provides an overview of animal research and conversation in Vietnam as well as illustrated and detailed descriptions of 127 typical animal species in the country.
