Vietnamese doctors have conducted free eye surgery on 276 cataract patients in the Cambodian province of Kampot, which shares the border with Vietnam’s southern Kien Giang province.

The surgery, funded by the Association for Poor Patients based in Kien Giang with each operation worth VND600,000 (about US$40), is part of a healthcare cooperation agreement between the two provinces.

Besides free surgery, the Cambodian cataract sufferers received gifts from Ho Chi Minh City-based Giac Nguyen Pagoda.

This is the fourth time the Association has offered free eye surgery for poor blind Cambodians, raising the total number to 800 so far.
