US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on September 1 sent a message of congratulation to Vietnamese people on the occasion Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).

In her message, she said she was honoured to visit Vietnam twice in 2010 and to see the dynamic spirit and optimism of the Vietnamese people firsthand.

Over the last year the two countries have continued to broaden bilateral cooperation and build a strategic partnership, Ms. Hillary said.

She emphasized that the two countries focus on a growing array of important issues, from enhancing bilateral dialogue on human rights and responding to HIV/AIDS to protecting the environment, bolstering trade and improving their shared security.

The US-Vietnam relationship is based on mutual respect and common commitment to increasing the stability and prosperity of the Asia Pacific region, she stressed, adding that the US will continue to be Vietnam’s friend and partner as it creates a new future of regional and global cooperation to seize the opportunities and address the challenges.

On this festive occasion, the Secretary wished all Vietnamese people peace and prosperity in the coming year.
