Test success for made-in-Vietnam submarine

(VOV) -Vietnam’s first domestically produced submarine, built by a private company based in northern Thai Binh province, has successfully completed a test run begun on January 6.

The mini submarine is named after Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago n the East Sea.

Quoc Hoa Mechanical Company Director Nguyen Quoc Hoa reports the submarine has proven its balance and diving capabilities.

“The vessel is now ready to run,” he said confidently. Hoa and his staff worked hard to correct any shortcomings revealed during the submarine’s testing.

The vessel, 8.8 metres long and 3 meters wide, has a submerged displacement of 12 tonnes, and a surface displacement of 9.2 tonnes.

Equipped with air independent propulsion technology and advanced navigation equipment, the submarine has an 800km operating radius and can dive to a depth of 50 metres for extended periods.

It was designed to accommodate both commercial and defence demands, and is especially well suited to fishing.
