Vietnam-Laos hold friendship exchange in Quang Nam
(VOV) - In honour of the 40th anniversary of Lao National Day (December 2) Vietnamese and Lao officials, military personnel, residents, and students gathered on November 26 for a day filled with cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Tam Ky City, Vice Chairman Nguyen Chin of the Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee recapped the significant achievements of Laos over the past four decades.
Most notably, Chin said cooperation in educating the two nations’ youth has developed strongly. He pointed out that since 2006, local officials have regularly presented grants and scholarships to Lao students for study in Vietnam.
Roughly 40-50 Lao students are enrolled at Quang Nam University each year.
“Fifty-four Lao students have graduated from Quang Nam University and returned to their homeland to assume important positions in the public and private sectors,” said Chin.
Lao Consul General to Danang Khamsene Phommaseng in turn thanked the people of Quang Nam for their much appreciated assistance and talked eloquently about the two nations’ shared socio-economic achievements.
