PM visits Central Highlands border commune
(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on January 6 inquired into the living conditions of local people and armed forces of Moray border commune in Sa Thay district, the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.
Moray holds a strategic position in Sa Thay district’s socio-economic development and national defence. The commune, which shares a nearly 100km long border with Cambodia, has more than 10,000 residents of seven ethnic groups living in 16 villages and hamlets.
Officers and staff of six border guard stations and militiamen have jointly conducted patrol along the border to ensure security and defence in the locality.

The commune has 11 businesses, eight of which are involved in rubber plantation, one in mineral ore exploitation, one in forest product processing, and one specialising in building materials.
PM Dung acknowledged efforts by local Party committee, administration and people in carrying out socio-economic development tasks and ensuring security and defence in Moray – one of the country’s largest communes.
He asked the Party committee and administration of Moray to pay more attention to improving residents’ living conditions and consolidating security and defence to build a Vietnam-Cambodia border of peace, cooperation and friendship, while intensifying the fight against trans-national crime.
He announced the government’s decision to split Moray into four smaller communes and reminded Sa Thay district to work on planning work, infrastructure upgrade, demography, land allocation and farm development plans in the newly established communes.
The PM presented gifts to local residents, armed forces and businesses in the lead up to the traditional lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
