There will be no "safe heaven" for anyone in the combat against corruption and wastefulness, a senior Party official said at a meeting in Hanoi on October 9.

The meeting was held by the Party Secretariat for high ranking officials from all parts of the country to study the resolution of the 10th Party Central Committee's 3rd session on promoting the Party's leadership in preventing and fighting corruption and wastefulness.

Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, affirmed the Party and State's determination in resolving detected corruption cases. He said the Party should always firmly grasp and uphold a leading banner in the fight against corruption, preventing hostile forces from taking advantage of the situation and cause troubles.

Mr Sang noted that in addition to imposing strict punishment in accordance with the Party discipline and the law, it is important to pay attention to seizing property in corruption cases and preventing motives for corruption.

To Huy Rua, Secretary of the Party Central Secretary and Head of the Ideological and Cultural Commission of the Party Central Committee, stressed that the resolution of the 10th Party Central Committee's 3rd session reflects the Party's determination to prevent and gradually drive back corruption and wastefulness, creating an obvious change in the building of a transparent and strong Party, State and political system.

During the meeting, which will last through October 10, Vice National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van Yeu will introduce the Law on Corruption Prevention and Combat, and Chairman of the National Assembly's Legal Affairs Committee Vu Duc Khien will present the Law on Thrift Practice and Waste Prevention.

The meeting was attended by key leading officials of provincial and municipal Party Committees, ministries, departments, branches, fatherland front, mass organisations, centrally-run Party committees and State-owned economic corporations.
