National Day celebrated in Canada, Mexico, Laos

Events to commemorate the August Revolution and National Day have been held in many countries around the world, including  Canada, Mexico and Laos.

Nearly 300 people, including provincial officials, foreign friends and overseas Vietnamese (OVs) gathered at a celebration in Ontario, Canada on September 1 to mark the National Day.

Vietnam's National Day was celebrated in Laos

Vietnamese ambassador to Canada Le Sy Vuong Ha emphasised that September 2 1945 was a turning point in the nation's history.

He said Vietnamese nationals are always looking towards their homeland and contributing to national development in the fields of science, technology, economics, education, society and culture. They also actively take part in activities to support their compatriots in overcoming the impact of natural diseases and epidemics.

The Canadian Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Charles Sousa, and residents of Ontario sent a congratulatory letter to Vietnam on the occasion.

*** At an August 31 celebration to mark Vietnamese National Day in Mexico, Ambassador Le Thanh Tung praised Mexico's significant support for Vietnam during its past struggles for national independence and the current process of national development and defence.

Ambassador Tung cut the ribbon to open a photography exhibition entitled "Vietnam: the Land and the People" and introduced two books on the late President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese revolution.

*** A wide range of activities was also held in Laos during Vietnam's National Day to help Vietnamese people in the country gain a better understanding of the day's historical meaning and the special relationship between the two nations.
