Vietnam, RoK step up technological application in garment

The event was organised by the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH).

According to VITAS President Vu Duc Giang, the RoK is among countries with the most foreign direct investment in Vietnam, particularly in the garment and textile sector. Most RoK projects have advanced technology, meeting latest requirements of export markets.

Vietnam, in return, is the largest exporter of the goods to the East Asian country, Giang noted.

The event helped create a foundation to accelerate the sustainable development of the Vietnamese garment industry while affirming close relations between VITAS and KITECH, he added.

The conference focused attention on the current trends of functional fabrics, recommendations to build smart garment plants, smart supply and archive system for weaving plants, automated sewing machines for smart garment plants and 3D technology to improve productivity.

Ahn Seong Ho, trade counsellor at the Consulate General of the RoK in Ho Chi Minh City, said Vietnam and the RoK have enjoyed fruitful economic cooperation over the years, with two-way trade growing more than 20% to reach US$64 billion in 2017.

The RoK holds strength in technology while Vietnam has an abundant supply of labourers - a supplementary factor in the bilateral partnership, he underlined.

Regarding current developments, he believed that the Industrial Revolution 4.0 with Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Big Data is a hot topic for all enterprises. It plays an important role in changing production lines in a more flexible and effective manner.

Grasping opportunities of the Industry 4.0 will help the firms create a breakthrough in their business in the context of global economic challenges, he said.

In the framework of the conference, the organising board arranged an exhibition on multi-functional fabrics and a business matching event with RoK garment businesses to share solutions being applied in their plants.
