The Congress of God’s People in Vietnam opened at the Pastoral Centre in Ho Chi Minh City on November 21.

334 delegates representing bishops, priests and Christians from across the country, and about 1,000 Christians from the HCM City archdiocese attended the ceremony presided over by Hanoi Archbishop Pierre Nguyen Van Nhon, who is also President of the Vietnam Episcopal Council.

The Congress is one of three major activities celebrating the Vietnamese Catholic community’s Jubilee Year 2010. The activities include the opening ceremony held on November 24, 2009, at So Kien parish church in the northern province of Ha Nam, the Congress of God’s People taking place in HCM City from Nov. 21-25, 2010, and the closing ceremony of the Jubilee Year and the 29th La Vang pilgrim congress scheduled for January 4-6 at the La Vang Church in the central province of Quang Tri.

The congress will close on November 25 with a festival.
