NA Chairman meets female leaders ahead of IPU-132

(VOV) - On March 14, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung met female Cambodian, Lao and Vietnamese members of parliament, and ambassadors and international organization representatives in Vietnam in the lead up to the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132).

The top legislator highlighted the significant contributions by the outstanding women to the development of Vietnam and the world for the stronger relations between the Southeast Asian nation and the international community.

Hung reconfirmed Vietnam’s unwavering policy of supporting the tireless efforts to build an equitable society for all people.

The IPU-132 event scheduled to take place in Hanoi at the end of March is seen as a good opportunity for Vietnam to introduce its land, people and confirm its determination to ensure equal rights and opportunities for everyone.

Under the theme “The sustainable development goals: Turning words into action”, the IPU-132 will convey important messages of peace, democracy, social progress, and equality.

Sustainable development means establishing an equitable social environment, and gender equality objectives will be integrated into all activities of sustainable development goals similar to the process of realizing millennium goals, Hung told his guests.

The NA Chairman said he hopes women deputies will continue to bring into full play what they achieved with a view to promoting equality and advancement for all people worldwide.

At the meeting, members from some NA Committees briefed the delegates on the IPU- 132, activities of women parliamentarians and other contents related to gender equality, women and children to be discussed at the upcoming event.
