Party leader lauds public security efforts

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has praised the public security force’s achievements in 2013.

Addressing the 69th National Public Security Conference that opened in Hanoi on December 18, the Party chief said the force has successfully ensured national security and social order and safety.

The public security force has also made important contributions to ensuring territorial sovereignty, creating a favourable environment for economic growth and strengthening external relations in the process of socio-economic development, he said.

Mr Trong emphasised that the force should focus on its core tasks of protecting national security and social order and safety in all circumstances.

He urged the force to engage in updating, analysing and foreseeing all situations to give practical advice to the Party and State.

The force should join efforts with all government agencies to effective implementation of the newly-amended Constitution, he said.

He asked the force to focus on controlling and reducing the crime rate in the face of social security and safety mishaps.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Dang Van Hieu reported at the conference indicated that the force had uncovered 44,033 criminal cases, arresting 88,259 involved people in the past year after focusing on more than 1,730 economic and corruption cases involving more than 3,000 persons.

During two-day conference, the public security sector set key tasks for 2014.
