Bird flu recurs in Dien Bien
(VOV) - The northwestern mountain province of Dien Bien has declared bird flu in Thanh Xuong commune, Dien Bien district after the outbreak was detected on February 19.
All three blood samples taken from waterfowl tested positive for the deadly strain of H5N1 virus.
Local authorities and veterinarians killed more than 350 birds and disinfected the affected farms.
In its decision signed recently, the provincial administration banned the transportation of poultry and related products from Thanh Xuong commune, as well as the slaughtering, sales and use of sick poultry products within the entire province.
It also asked for close monitoring of the slaughtering, sales and transportation of poultry and related products in other localities across the province.
It requested the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development instruct its Animal Health Service to dispatch veterinarians and supply disinfectants to the affected areas to prevent the epidemic spreading.
