Mongolian President in town

(VOV) - Vietnam and Mongolia will increase visit exchanges to strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially in economics, trade, investment, national security-defence, and crime fight.

The agreement was reached during talks in Hanoi on November 21 between President Truong Tan Sang and his visiting Mongolian counterpart Tsakhia Elbegdorj.

They acknowledged their countries’ mutual recognition of the full market economy status and said the two countries need to work closely together to foster their economic and trade ties.

The Vietnamese side proposed Mongolia create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to conduct market research, and increase trade exchanges and investment in Mongolia.

The Mongolian side welcomed Vietnam’s decision to invest in oil and minerals exploration projects in its territory.

They noted with satisfaction the growing ties between Vietnam and Mongolia following the signing of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty in 1961, meeting the interests and aspirations of their peoples and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.

Both sides agreed to increase people-to-people diplomacy, as well as cultural and art exchanges, to promote mutual understanding, while supporting Vietnamese and Mongolian nationals residing in their territories.

They said Vietnam and Mongolia will coordinate closely in celebrating 60 years of diplomatic ties in 2014.

They spoke highly of the two countries’ coordination at regional and international forums, including the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), World Trade Organisation (WTO), and Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

Sang and Elbegdorj stressed the need to maintain peace, stability, freedom and maritime security in the East Sea and voiced their support for settling disputes through peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties (DOC) in the East and working toward the Code of Conduct (COC) in the sea .

After talks, the two Presidents witnessed the signing of four cooperation agreements and briefed the media on the result of their talks.
