The New Hanoi Choir bagged a bronze medal at the 6th World Choir Games (WCG) in China, said Pham Hong Hai, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Opera and Ballet Theatre on July 19.

The national choir made a good impression to the jury and audiences while performing Vietnamese folk songs ‘Trong Com’ and ‘Bac Kim Thang’, said Hai.

At the folk song event, the New Hanoi Choir competed with nearly 50 choirs from 30 countries and territories worldwide.

At the event, teams from Vietnam, Australia, the Philippines, South Africa and the host China, held performances for 1,000 audiences in Chinese Zhejiang province.

The WCG was organised for the occasion of the 2,500th anniversary of Zhejiang city, attracting 430 choirs from 100 countries and territories over the world. The opening ceremony on July 15, broadcast live, was considered the most imposing ever with over 10,000 spectators from five continents in attendance.

The Vietnamese team returned to Hanoi on July 19, after taking part in the prize-giving ceremony.
