Some 1,000 flood-resistant houses are under construction to cope with the rainy season in 2008.

The project is being carried out by the Vietnam Red Cross Society, in respond to calls from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent at a total cost of US$1.2 million in the thirteen disaster-prone provinces of Hoa Binh, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen. The beneficiaries include victims of Storm Lekima and major floods in 2007.

 

The project is scheduled for completion in August this year. Each house is estimated at US$1,000.
