The Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control met on July 20 to discuss measures to cope with this year’s second storm, Chanthu, while dealing with the consequences of the first storm.

The committee has now directed all coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Khanh Hoa and the relevant ministries and agencies to keep a close watch and inform vessels at sea to find a safe haven.

By July 20, the border guards in coastal provinces have met with all localities, the fisheries sector and the families of ship owners to inform them of the storm progress as 23,754 vessels with 103,476 fishermen on board are operating at sea.

Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Nam and Ho Chi Minh City have directed the relevant agencies to follow and cope with the tropical low pressure and the second storm. The Committees for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue in the provinces from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa are standing by to react to the second storm.
