NA Chairman meets IPU President in Geneva

(VOV) - NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, on March 16 for the 130th General Assembly of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU).

On March 17 he met with IPU President Abdelwahad Radi and witnessed the signing of a document on Vietnam’s hosting the 132nd IPU General Assembly in March 2015.

Hung thanked Radi for supporting Vietnam’s IPU hosting bid and invited Radi to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

He said the IPU 132 General Assembly’s proposed theme Parliaments and realisation of post-2015 sustainable development will offer a chance for parliaments to share their views and priorities concerning development after 2015.

Radi hailed Vietnam’s preparation for the 2015 IPU meeting and said he believes the success of the event will help elevate the IPU’s profile globally.

He also expressed his belief the upcoming meeting will help promote foreign investment in Vietnam.

He said the theme of the IPU 132 meeting matches the organisation’s strategic orientations, including increased parliamentary assistance for development goals.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of a document between the Vietnam National Assembly and the IPU on the organisation of the 132nd IPU General Assembly and related meetings in 2015.

Hung is scheduled to attend plenary sessions and address the 130th IPU 130 on March 17.
