Quang Nam celebrates former President’s centennial birthday

The 100th birth anniversary of former State Council President Vo Chi Cong was celebrated at the cultural centre in the central province of Quang Nam with the attendance of Party and State leaders, heroic mothers and revolutionary veterans.

In his speech at the celebration, President Truong Tan Sang reviewed President Cong’s revolutionary activities in different periods of  history and highlighted his significant contributions to the revolutionary cause and his home province of Quang Nam.

Vo Chi Cong (whose real name was Vo Toan) was born on August 7, 1912 in Tam Xuan commune, Tam Ky district, Quang Nam-Da Nang province (now Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province). During his life was a Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary and advisor to the Party Central committee.

He was closely associated with the revolutionary process and important historical events related to the Party and people of Vietnam.

President Sang called on the entire Party, soldiers and general population, as well as the Vietnamese community abroad, to follow late President Cong’s shining example and other revolutionary predecessors by upholding the country’s patriotic traditions, overcoming all difficulties and challenges, promoting patriotic emulation movements and striving to achieve all set targets.

Earlier the same day, President Sang, along with Party, State, National Assembly and Government leaders, burnt incense at President Vo Chi Cong memorial site in Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province.
