The Japanese government is carrying out a project to help upgrade a number of Vietnam’s provincial and regional hospitals, especially those in the northwestern region and the Central Highlands.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided loans, non-refundable aid or technical assistance to hospitals in the targeted provinces.

During the first phase of the project, hospitals in the northern provinces of Thai Nguyen and Lang Son and the central province of Ha Tinh were selected for inclusion in a pilot project under JICA’s loaning agreement.

The Central Project Management Unit is now studying the feasibility of the project’s second phase, under which 25 hospitals will be considered for improvement.

A workshop relating to the selection process for hospitals that will benefit from the project was held in Hanoi on October 1.
