The voters have shown their responsibility and obligations in choosing the most deserving people to develop Vietnam.
The election on May 22 was the biggest-ever election in Vietnam with 69 million registered voters. It was also the first parliamentary election since Vietnam passed the Law on the Election of the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all level in 2015. A National Electoral Council was established for this election.

High turnout of electorate

The National Electoral Council reported that 66,830,360 voters cast their ballots, 98.79% of the population. 47 out of 63 provinces and cities reported that over 99% of local residents voted. Thua Thien-Hue and Yen Bai province had a 99.99% voter turnout.

The voters exercised their right to directly participate in building a transparent, strong, valid, and effective state apparatus. The election’s success was not only in the high rate of voters, but voters’ political awareness and responsibility to vote.

Tran Thi Hoa Sinh, a National Assembly deputy for Lang Son province, said. “I see that the voters have put high expectations and demands on the deputies. The voters showed a sense of responsibility and made careful decisions.”

Le Minh Thong, deputy head of the National Electoral Council, said voters cast their ballots with a high sense of responsibility because they thoroughly understood the significance of the election and the weight of their selection.

“People have acknowledged the role of the National Assembly and People’s Councils in listening to and responding to people’s demands. They understand that the National Assembly and People’s Councils will take their opinions into consideration during the legislative process and on important national issues.

People care about and trust the operation of people-elected agencies. The election was organized democratically and respected people’s democratic rights.”

The Law on the Election of the National Assembly and People’s Councils recognizes the voting rights of people under temporary arrest or detention and defines which people are eligible to be present for the vote counting process.

The list includes candidates, representatives from agencies and organizations, and reporters. These regulations have ensured people’s right to vote and a fair, transparent, public election process.

Careful preparation ensures success

The election’s success is attributed to thorough preparations by the administration at all levels, including communication of the election’s purposes and the people’s rights and obligations.

National Assembly (NA) Secretary General, and chief of the National Electoral Council Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc said thorough and innovative preparations and focused direction from the central to the local level made the election a success.

Electoral units organized training sessions on the new law and some creative communications methods were used to improve people’s understanding.

The law stipulates that the National Electoral Council will announce the official results within 20 days after the election.
