More than 194 businesses from 21 nations and territories around the world have participated in the 9th Vietnam Oil and Gas Expo 2011 which opened in Hanoi on October 27.

Addressing the opening ceremony, State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan highlighted great efforts made by international organisations and foreign businesses to help the Vietnamese government develop the economy in general and the oil and gas sector in particular.

The pavilion of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group showcases its scientific and technological achievements over the past 50 years including the recent launch of the first 90m jack-up drilling rig.

It also displays models of drilling rigs, oil refinery factories, and fertilizer plants which annually make up 30 percent of the state budget to help ensure energy and food security.

The “Vietnam Oil and Gas Expo” has been held every two years since 1991, attracting large numbers of international businesses and manufacturers with keen interest in providing equipment and services in the oil and gas sector.

This year’s event lasts three days until October 29.
