As many as 250 representatives of domestic businesses attended a workshop entitled ‘Vietnamese prioritize the use of Vietnamese goods’ on September 9.

The event, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Business Association and the Doanh Nhan Sai Gon (Saigon business) newspaper, is a response to the call made by the Politburo of the Party Central Committee.

Speakers at the workshop analysed a range of issues such as the significance of the campaign in the current context, the pioneering role of enterprises, and ways to build up consumer confidence in Vietnamese products.

Participants and economists talked about practical issues such as the definition of domestic commodities, the impact of the movement on Vietnam’s international integration process and measures needed to make the slogan a reality.

Expert Pham Chi Lan said the movement needed to base itself on patriotism, self-reliance, and national pride.

The workshop affirmed the view that internal demand is a decisive factor, without detracting from the need for foreign interest and underlined the view that any economic strategy must pay attention to quality, competitiveness and sustainability.
