High-quality int’l university model proves effective

(VOV) - The University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) coheres to a modern educational model and will be an important voice in reforming management methods and university training systems in Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed these sentiments at the opening of the university’s third academic year in Hanoi on December 15.

The USTH is a high-quality international university established with cooperation between the Vietnamese and French Governments.

The Deputy PM emphasised the highest quality training methods already trialed successfully at the world’s most prestigious universities will also be introduced at USTH.

He voiced confidence in the university’s sustainable development, safeguarding the Government’s investment.

Nhan also asked relevant ministries and agencies, especially the Ministry of Education and Training, to strengthen cooperation with USTH in investing in and constructing facilities and equipment.

In the 2012–2013 academic year, USTH have recruited 350 students, bringing the total number of students at all levels to 500. 24 post-graduates will uphold  their theses in France and return to work at USTH in the next academic year.

USTH is a quality international public university established under a bilateral agreement signed between the French and Vietnamese governments in 2009. The Asian Development Bank provided US$190 million in loans while France contributed around EUR100 million. Up to 60 French universities are involved in supporting the USTH’s training programs. Many French lecturers have visited Vietnam to give lectures and instruct USTH’s students.

The Government plans on upgrading USTH’s facilities on 65ha of land in Hoa Lac hi-tech park
