Diverse celebrations are underway from across the country to celebrate Southern Liberation Day (April 30) and International Labour Day (May 1).

*** A get-together of war veterans from  “David Camp” Joint Military Committee was held in Hanoi on April 30.

At the meeting, they recalled the glorious feat of arms during 823 days and nights at David Camp. With patriotic spirit, courage and ingenuity, members from the joint military committee joined hands with the Party, people and soldiers and forced US troops to totally withdraw from southern Vietnam on March 29, 1973. 

 

*** The Industrial and Commercial Bank of Vietnam (ICBV) in coordination with the Quang Tri People’s Committee on April 29 inaugurated Thanh Co Quang Tri (Quang Tri Old Citadel) bell tower to mark 35th anniversary of Quang Tri Liberation Day.

The bronze bell, 3.9 in height, 9 tones in weight with a diameter of 2.15 m was hung inside a 9 m high tower. The project was carried out with a total funding of VND4 billion from the ICBV.

Apart from financial assistance in building the bell tower, the ICBV has planned to allocate VND12.6 billion for supporting “Paying debts of gratitude” and social charitable activities.

 

*** A delegation from northern Yen Bai province, led by chairman of the Yen Bai Party’s Committee Phung Quoc Hien, visited Truong Son Martyr Cemetery on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of Southern Liberation Day (April 30) and the 60th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

The delegation burnt incenses and laid wreathes to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their life to the independence of the nation. Sixty-three martyrs from Yen Bai province were buried at Truong Son Martyr Cemetery.

The delegation then visited Highway 9 Martyr Cemetery, Quang Tri Old Citadel and the house that commemorate late Party General Secretary Le Duan.

 

*** The High Command of the Military Zone 5 has launched an emulation movement to mark Southern Liberation Day (April 30), May Day (May 1), the 117th birth anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19) and the 12th National Assembly Election day (May 20).

The emulation movement focuses on maintaining a high sense of readiness for action, ensuring absolute security for activities in localities, particularly the upcoming 12th National Assembly Election day.

 

*** On April 27, the High Command of the Military Zone 9 held a meeting to mark Southern Liberation Day, May Day, the 117th birth anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19) and the 12th National Assembly Election day (May 20).

 

*** SO1 information group of the Military Zone 1 has launched a number of practical activities to mark Southern Liberation Day and May Day. Subgroups have mobilized hundreds of working days to refurbish training facilities and the surrounding environment, build fish ponds and plant fruit trees to improve soldier’s lives.
