HDBank int’l chess tourney attracts strong players

(VOV) - The third international chess tournament, the HDBank Cup 2013, will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from March 19-25 with more than 100 participants drawn from 13 countries. 

The annual event, the largest of its kind held by the Vietnam Chess Federation, is part of the World Chess Federation (FIDE)’s competition system.

This year’s tournament attracted strong competitors from Hungary, India, South Africa, Australia, Swiss, China, Ukraine, the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Uganda and the host, Vietnam, who will play in nine rounds following the Swiss system.

Forty-eight Vietnamese players, including GM Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Duc Hoa and Nguyen Van Huy, will be competing in the cup.

The tournament’s total cash prizes amounts to US$30,000, with US$10,000 for the top winner.
