The provinces, which in the past formed the famous revolutionary base of Viet Bac, boast beautiful scenery, diverse ecological systems and cultures as well as many historical relics, said Nguyen Van Tuan, Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, at the workshop on tourism development.

In addition to famous relics of resistance war such as Tan Trao, Dinh Hoa, Pac Bo cave and Lenin stream, the region also has Ba Be lake which has been recognized as one of the two largest natural fresh water lakes in the world, and the Dong Van Plateau, also globally known as a national geological park.

Viet Bac is also home of ethnic minority groups with unique cultures.

Tuan urged local authorities to work together closely to develop tourism products and create a joint tourism programme to attract more visitors.

The six provinces, namely Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son and Tuyen Quang, should target sustainable tourism development towards ecological preservation and local cultural promotion, he added.
