Wind energy moving closer to reality in Vietnam

(VOV) - Wind farms came one step closer to becoming a reality in Vietnam on June 12 with the signing of an agreement by Germany to fund a EUR6.9 million project to have them in operation by the end of 2018.

The agreement, signed by Vietnam’s General Directorate of Energy and Germany’s GIZ Energy Support Programme, also provides for vocational training and technological transfer to get Vietnamese up to date on the latest advances in the industry.

“Past renewable energy and power wind programs that Vietnam has attempted to implement have not lived up to expectations,” said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade at the signing ceremony.

However, the Deputy Minister expressed confidence that with the German government’s wholehearted support this project would be successful in accelerating the development of wind power throughout the nation.

Annette Frick the First Secretary of the German Embassy in Hanoi affirmed the German Government’s commitments to supporting the development of renewable energy, especially wind power in Vietnam.
