Association helps boost ties between Vietnamese, Cambodian localities

The Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association’s chapter in the Mekong Delta province of Long An held its third congress on September 3 with the participation of more than 100 members.

The congress elected a 19-member executive board for the 2017-2022 tenure led by Le Minh Duc, Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade.

During the new term, the chapter will focus on implementing the Party Central Committee Secretariat’s Directive No. 04-CT/TW on continuing to renew and improve the efficiency of people-to-people diplomacy in the new situation.

Accordingly, attention will be paid to raising public awareness in combination with fulfilling socio-economic, security and defence tasks, and participating in political, socio-economic activities, investment cooperation promotion, and humanitarian and charitable activities.

Over the past tenure, the chapter carried out various pragmatic activities, contributing to building trust and solidarity between locals and people of Cambodia in general and Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provinces in particular.

Apart from health care programmes for poor residents in the border area, the chapter dispatched officials to Cambodia to help build education and transport facilities in the country, organised Khmer language teaching classes, and maintained the establishment of twinning relationship between Vietnamese and Cambodian border localities.
