Party leader meets Japanese Emperor, other officials

(VOV) - On September 16, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met Japanese Emperor Akihito
and some other senior officials as part of his ongoing visit to Japan.

Trong and Japanese Emperor Akihito expressed pleasure at the development of relations between Vietnam and Japan in recent years and agreed to deepen the two countries’ extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.

Receiving the President of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Ishighe Hiroyuki, Trong said he hopes that JETRO would support Japanese businesses to invest in agriculture and prioritized industries in Vietnam, helping Vietnamese agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products to access the Japanese market.

At a meeting with Ken Matsuzawa, President of Japan’s Public Diplomacy Council, the Party leader asked the Council would continue to help Vietnam promote human resource development cooperation, agricultural and industrial cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese localities.

At an earlier reception for Trong the same day, President Yamaguchi welcomed Trong’s official visit to Japan while hailing Vietnam’s enhanced role and rising status in the region.

He expressed his pleasure at the growing Vietnam-Japan in recent times and applauded the outcome of talks between Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Regular exchanges and meetings between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the New Komeito Party have helped deepen mutual understanding, thereby strengthening political platform and augmenting multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, the Japanese official said.

President Yamaguchi voiced his desire to continue promoting further relations between the two parties, expressed profound affection for Vietnam and shared difficulties the country and people of Vietnam have suffered as a result of war.

Trong in turn thanked President Yamaguchi for his good sentiment and goodwill for Vietnamese people as well as the support of the New Komeito and personal President Yamaguchi for the development of the Vietnam-Japan relations.

Vietnam always attaches high importance to the position and role of the New Komeito Party, appreciates the growth of relations between the two parties recently.

Strengthened relations between the two parties would create favorable conditions for forging the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan in line with the two peoples’ expectation and interests, positively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world at large, Trong told Yamaguchi.

Trong also met with leaders from four major Japanese investment groups- Sumitomo, Misubishi, Taisei, and Mitsubishi Omiya Hideaki.

These groups have investment, production, and business projects in Vietnam. Trong glowingly spoke of the economic groups’ investments in Vietnam over recent years, which contributed significantly to Vietnam’s economic development.

He suggested them cooperate with Vietnam in high technology transfer, infrastructure building, and energy, saying that Vietnam would continue to improve its business and investment environment and offer the best possible conditions for Japan's short and long term investments.
