Vietnam eager to boost stronger trade ties with US

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has highlighted the healthy development of the Vietnam-US relations in various aspects at a meeting with US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker in Hanoi on June 2.

The Vietnamese government leader affirmed Vietnam’s willingness to work with the US on promoting bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, and investment and urged both sides to exploit cooperation potential in economics and trade to help trade turnover reach an impressive figure in the near future.

Regarding the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) negotiations, PM Dung said that success of the negotiations will deliver practical benefits to all TPP members, noting that Vietnam will offer the best possible conditions for US investors to operate in the country.

He also suggested the US support Vietnam in TPP negotiations and soon recognize Vietnam’s market economy status.

Dung said he hopes that the US will continue to oppose China’s illegal actions in the East Sea which are threatening regional peace and stability.

US trade official Pritzker emphasized cooperation potential between the two nations in aviation, construction and energy and expressed hope that the Vietnamese Government will facilitate US investment in the long run.

She said her nation will closely work with TPP participating countries, including Vietnam to soon finalize the negotiation process thus boosting economic cooperation among TPP member countries including the US and Vietnam.
