Military jet crashes, killing one in Phu Yen

VOV.VN - A military jet crashed on Highway 1 in the central province of Phu Yen at approximately 8:45 a.m. on August 26 just minutes after take-off, killing the sole pilot on board.

Military and law enforcement officials are on scene trying to piece together what caused the Czechoslovakia-era Aero L-39 Albatros aircraft to go down.

The pilot, identified as Pham Duc Trung, 22, a member of Air Force Regiment 910 stationed in Phu Yen, is the only casualty reported.

One person travelling in a vehicle on Highway 1 is reported to have been seriously injured.

According to eyewitness reports, the jet crashed onto the pavement of National Highway 1 before leaving debris scattered over a wide area.

The crash site has been cordoned off pending further investigation.

The crash has snarled traffic in the area as curious onlookers stop to gaze at the crash site.
