An international exhibition on telecommunications, information technology and electronic appliances (Vietnam Telecomp 2006), the largest of its kind in Vietnam, opened in HCM City on September 13, showcasing the latest information and communication technology (ICT) and electronic equipment to the Vietnamese market.

The exhibition attracted more than 180 ICT participants from 21 countries with half of them entering the Vietnamese market for the first time. China alone brought more than 40 ICT enterprises to the exhibition, showcasing telecom equipment and personal electronic appliances.

Shao Neng Cen, director general of the Nenshi Company said Vietnam boasts of numerous opportunities for Chinese enterprises to invest in, particularly the lucrative telecom market. He expressed his hope that his company will have the chance to participate in similar exhibitions so that its Nenshi brand name will become known to Vietnamese consumers.

Leading telecom service providers such as MobiFone, SPT, VinaPhone and VTI presented new services to be put into operation in the coming years.

A number of seminars will be held during the four-day exhibition which was co-organised by the Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group, Hong Kong’s Adsale Exhibition Service Company, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The exhibition is expected to create a good chance for local and foreign ICT enterprises to seek business opportunities and boost trade promotion activities.
