Aggregate revenue from two-way trade between Vietnam and Brazil hit US$118.69 million in the first quarter of 2009, an impressive rise of 13 percent against the same period last year, according to the Vietnamese Trade Office in Brazil.

Of the total amount, Vietnam exported US$46.97 million worth of goods, a year-on-year increase of 28.4 percent, and imported US$71.71 million worth of products, up 4.42 percent from last year.

In March alone, Vietnam’s exports to Brazil hit US$15.45 million, up 2.1 percent from the previous month. Meanwhile, Brazil’s exports to Vietnam reached US$23.18 million, an increase of 39.53 percent from February.

Vietnam’s staples exported to Brazil include coal, rubber, footwear, textiles and garments, mechanical products, electronics and handicrafts.

Brazil has allowed 60 Vietnamese seafood businesses to export goods to the country, creating a huge opportunity for Vietnamese catfish to penetrate a large market of 190 million consumers who especially favour seafood.
