Vietnam attended the 312th session of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Governing Body in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 7, as a full member of the organization.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Ambassador Vu Dung, Head of the Permanent Vietnamese mission to the UN, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international organizations in Geneva.

The November 3-8 session was attended by nearly 200 full and deputy members of the Governing Body representing governments, employers and employees.

At the session, the Governing Body considered and made decisions on 55 issues related to ILO operations with a focus on employment, social welfare, labour codes, international labour standards, cooperation and technical assistance.

A number of issues related to social justice in the context of globalization, the impact of global issues on jobs, social welfare, and workers’ lives were also discussed, as well as renewing the operational functions of the Governing Body and the General Assembly.

Vietnam was elected as a full member of the ILO Governing Body for the 2011-2014 term last June.
