Can Tho International Airport is expected be put into operation by the end of this year in order to develop the local economy and benefit the people of the Mekong Delta.

Airport officials said it cost over VND2.5 billion (US$151 million) to build the facility which covers a total area of over 400ha. Construction of the terminal with a capacity of 2 million passengers began in March.

According to Director Pham Manh Khien, Can Tho International Airport can begin using Airbus 320, Airbus 321 and Boeing 737 planes to serve domestic flights by the end of this year.

Currently, it is in the process of completing necessary legal procedures such as registration and flight regulations so that the airport can be put into use on time, Mr Khien added.
