The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided US$500,000 for Vietnam’s counter-human trafficking project, which will be implemented by the Asian Fund- an agency experienced in the field.

USAID and the Asian Fund will work together with the Vietnam Institute of Science and Education under the Ministry of Education and Training to carry out educational activities in the Mekong Delta provinces of An Giang and Can Tho.

As many as 40,000 young people will be trained and consultation skills relating to safe migration will be improved for State employees and teachers.

This programme will provide young people with skills necessary to help them uncover human trafficking plots while seeking jobs or considering marriage proposals far from home.

In Vietnam, victims of human trafficking are mostly women aged between 18 and 49 with limited education.
