Viettel removes roaming charges for Vietnam-Lao-Cambodia calls
The military-run telecommunication group Viettelsaid it will remove roaming charges for phone calls among its subscribers in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
The move will allow subscribers of Viettel in Vietnam, Unitel in Laos and Metfone in Cambodia to make phone calls to each other at the same price as domestic calls.Unitel and Metfone are Viettel’s subsidiaries in Laos and Cambodia.
General Director of Viettel Nguyen Manh Hung said the policy aims to promote economic development and trade between the three countries.
In 2013, the Ministers for Information Technology and Communications of the ASEAN countries began discussing the removal of roaming charges.
Through its affiliate, Viettel Global, the telecom giant has so far invested in Laos, Cambodia, Timor Leste, Cameroon, Haiti, Mozambique, Burundi, Peru and Tanzania.
