The UN Security Council has approved another year of peacekeeping operation in Sudan's Darfur region despite sharp divisions over charges of genocide against the Sudanese president.
The United States supports the mission but objects to the language used in the resolution, which notes that the African Union wants the council to freeze the International Criminal Court's prosecution of Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.
US spokesman Richard Grenell said that language sends the wrong signal to a man who presided over genocide.
The joint UN-African Union peacekeeping force took over its duties in Darfur in January.
