The World Bank has agreed to provide an additional amount of US$1.9 million for the second rural energy project in the southern most province of Ca Mau, part of a national rural electrification progamme signed between the Vietnam State Bank and the World Bank with a total capitalisation of US$200 million.

Le Minh Khoi, head of the Department of Industry and Trade says that the loan term is 40 years with no interest rate and can be extended for another 10 years. The project has a total investment capitalisation of US$2.95 million. It has nearly 270 km of low-voltage line, more than 150km of compound lines and 110km of independent lines.

The grid will be completed in September next year and provide the electricity for more than 4,340 households in the province.

In 2006, Ca Mau implemented the second rural electrification in 12 communes in 7 districts. The project became operational in June, 2008.

An additional 500,000 households will benefit from the project.
