Japan helps Vietnam improve management of construction projects

A training seminar took place in the central city of Da Nang on December 2, as part of a Japan-funded project on improving budgeting, contract and risk management capacity of construction projects in Vietnam.

The project is sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in a bid to help Vietnam’s project management meet international standards, thus boosting the quality of State-funded facilities.

It began in April, 2015 and lasts until March 2018.

At the seminar, Deputy Minister of Construction Bui Pham Khanh said his agency has paid particular interest to the project, adding that after one year of preparation under JICA support, positive outcomes have been recorded.

Kenichi Yamamoto, deputy chief representative of JICA Vietnam, said the project will bring significant benefits to both Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises.

Co-organised by the Ministry of Construction and JICA, a similar seminar was held in Hanoi on November 25 and will come to Ho Chi Minh City on December 8.

As the economy grows, Vietnam is engaging in numerous big infrastructure projects. However, weak management of construction quality and labour safety have led to several accidents and disputes that slowed down construction progress and affected the quality.
