The Hanoi 13th People’s Council opened its 22nd session on December 7 with the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Pham Quang Nghi; Chaiman of the Municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen The Thao; and 154 delegates taking part.

Chairwoman of the People’s Council Ngo Thi Doan Thanh said the session will focus on revising important issues such as the implementation of the People’s Council resolutions on socio-economic development, security, defense, and the budget for 2010; deciding the budget allocations for 2011;  handling complaints and denunciations; the Thang Long – Hanoi 1,000th anniversary; and the management of the People’s Committee.

Speaking at the session, Mr. Nghi said in order to fulfill the mission for 2011 and the following years, the city should take the initiative to draw up a plan to implement the resolution of the Municipal Party Committee; hold elections for the National Assembly and People’s Councils; promote emulation campaigns; and carry out the Government’s directives for preventing economic downturns, controlling inflation, and stabilizing the macro-economy.

He emphasized that there should be a high degree of unanimity throughout the whole political system in implementing the mission.

** On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh City 7th People’s Council opened its 19th session, focusing on revising the implementation of the city’s 2010 socio-economic plan.

In 2010, Ho Chi Minh City’s GDP is estimated at more than VND418,000 billion, up 11.5. However, the city’s export revenue has reached only US$21 billion, up 3.8 percent, but much lower than the set target of 12.7 percent.

** Also on December 7, the provincial People’s Councils of Son La, Lai Chau, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Ca Mau open their working sessions to review their socio-economic development in 2010 and set targets for 2011.
