Contemporary Chinese literature aroused keen interest from Vietnamese authors at a forum in Hanoi on February 16.

Several books in China with sales hitting one million copies were composed by young authors like Han Han and Guo Guiming at just 17 years old, said Wang Meng, an advisor for the Haiyang University and Rector of the Literature Institute of China.

Mr Meng, who is also Standing Vice Chairman of the Chinese Writers' Association, said contemporary Chinese literature is very vital and active, producing up to 600 novels a year with a number of internationally best-sellers.

The forum took place in a cordial and open atmosphere, contributing to increasing mutual understanding and friendship between writers from the two countries, which share a border.

The forum was part of Chinese Cultural Week, which is currently going on in Vietnam.
