HCM City strengthens cooperation with Laos
(VOV) - HCM City will do its utmost to realize Vietnam-Laos cooperation agreements and expand cooperation with Vientiane capital and other southern Lao provinces.
Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee, made the statement while receiving Pany Yathotou, Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly, at a reception in the city on January 8.
He noted that the success of the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012 will help cement the faithful friendship between the two nations.
He congratulated Laos on its achievements made under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), especially its recent admission to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the organisation of the 9th Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM).
For her part, Yathotou expressed her hope that HCM City will continue promoting experience exchange with Vientiane and other localities of Laos, primarily in the application of scientific and technological advances.
Earlier the same day, the Lao leader visited the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang and presented gifts to three outstanding Vietnamese veterans who had fought in Laos.
On January 7, Yathotou met with NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung in Hanoi to discuss ways to foster legislative links between the two countries.
