In preparation for the second session of the 12th National Assembly (NA) scheduled for October 22, NA deputies have finalised meetings with voters to give their feedback to the NA, Government and State agencies.

Many issues related to the country’s current affairs and people’s lives were discussed in an open and frank manner with a strong determination to boost the process of national construction and development.

After five months since the 12th NA elections, the first successful NA session has opened up bright prospects for the 12th NA legislature in the process of national industrialisation, modernisation and international integration.

493 NA deputies are prepared for the second session of the 12th NA and asserted that they will do their best to meet voters’ expectations.

Nguyen Van Thanh from Thanh Chan commune in northern province of Dien Bien said that the Party and State should give more attention to improving the lives of ethnic minority people by helping develop human resources and infrastructure facilities such as roads, schools, power networks and healthcare centres.

There is no denying that the Party and State’s poverty reduction programmes have been implemented effectively, thus improving people’s living standards.

However, such programmes have not been implemented effectively in some certain areas. NA deputy Nguyen Kim Thoa highlighted travel difficulties of people in Kon Tum district as many roads have not been completed. Mrs Thoa also touched upon unsolved burning issues from the first NA session such as price hikes, land acquisition, resettlement, bridging the gap between rich and poor and job creation.

Regarding State agencies’ operations, voters underscored the need to increase the efficiency of macro management to prevent loss and wastefulness, which have retarded national development.

For example, the collapse of the Can Tho bridge or scandal of PMU 18 are typical cases of poor management. Recently, storm Lekima caused huge loss of human life and materials to many provinces, which can be minimised if prevention work has been strengthened. Therefore, voters want local authorities to make further active initiatives in future. They emphasised the need to prevent corruption and wastefulness. This is a very important issue, which decide the country’s stability and development.

In the first session, voters continue addressing the pending issues such as administrative and judicial reforms, petitions, shortcomings in land management project planning, environmental protection, traffic safety, food hygiene and safety. Pham Huu Bong, deputy chairman of the Vietnam War Veterans Association said although relevant ministries and agencies have implemented the NA resolutions, efficiency has not been improved yet.

In fact, many issues addressed by voters in the previous session have not been resolved until now. This is attributed to the NA’s role in supervising and post-supervising. NA agencies and each NA deputy should improve their abilities. NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu asked the NA to further strengthen supervisory work and give concrete sanctions to improve the efficiency of the legislative body’s operations.

In the final session of the 11th NA legislature, Pham The Duyet, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) called on the NA and NA deputies to fulfil their tasks and mandates in the interests of people and the country.

When contacting voters in Cau Giay district, NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong stated that NA deputies should actively participate in resolving issues under their mandates and authority. More importantly, the responsibilities of the NA, government and relevant ministries are not to make vain promises. He expressed the wish that the second session of the 12th National Assembly would be successful.
