Soldiers and local people stationed in the Truong Sa island district of central coastal Khanh Hoa province and in the Bach Long Vi island district of northern Hai Phong port city went to the poll on May 13 to elect deputies to the 12th National Assembly.

All 24 polling stations on Truong Sa islands opened at 06.30am for local voters to fulfill their duties. In addition, the voters cast their ballots to elect 49 more deputies to the People’s Council of Sinh Ton and Sinh Tu communes and Truong Sa town.


According to the local election committee, by late noon nearly 90 percent of voters in Truong Sa town and 98 percent of those in Sinh Ton island commune had cast their votes.


Vote counting will begin as soon as all polling stations close at 19.00pm.


Meanwhile, the 12th National Assembly election took place in the Bach Long Vi island district the same day. 


At 07.00am, Party Secretary and Chairman of the district People’s Committee Cao Xuan Lien was the first to cast his ballot. By 10.40am, 100 percent of voters on the island had fulfilled their duties.


Polling stations counted the votes and reported the results to the Hai Phong Municipal Election Committee. 


The election on the island took place in a lawful, safe and ordered manner.
