At the closing ceremony of the 8th ASEAN Skills Competition on November 23 in Bangkok, Thailand, the Vietnamese team came third with 7 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals and 11 certificates.

The host Thailand ranked first with 15 gold medals, followed by the Philippines with 8 golds.

The competition was divided into five categories including industry, machinery, construction, service, and electronics and Vietnam competed in 18 of the 21 separate events.

Vu Mai Hien, 21, a student from Nam Dinh University of Economic and Technical Industry, said she had spent a lot of time designing a dress and embellishing it with traditional Vietnamese lotus flower, and her work took a gold medal in the fashion event. 

The 8th ASEAN vocational skills contest attracted 222 skilled contestants from member countries under the age of 22. 

Vietnam first attended the biennial contest in 2001 and has so far taken first place twice.
